Small business plays a vital role in Tasmania's economy and communities, and the Tasmanian Government is developing a new Strategy to reflect the current needs, priorities and operating environment of Tasmanian small businesses. The aim of the Strategy is to set out a clear, practical and forward‑looking approach that supports a productive, connected and sustainable business environment. Its purpose is to create conditions that allow businesses to pursue their goals in the way that suits them, whether that means building capability, improving stability or exploring new opportunities.

To inform the new Strategy, we are undertaking a two-stage targeted consultation process with small businesses, representative organisations, peak bodies and interested members of the public. The first stage of consultation concluded on 15 May 2026. The second stage is now underway.

Stage two consultation

Insights gathered during the first stage of consultation have shaped the Draft Tasmania's Small Business Strategy 2036. We are now seeking feedback on the draft Strategy to confirm it accurately reflects what we heard and that the new Strategy is relevant to Tasmanian small businesses.

This second stage of consultation is an opportunity for stakeholders to check that the draft Strategy captures the right priorities, responds to emerging challenges and opportunities, and sets a clear direction for supporting small business over the next decade.

We encourage you to read the Draft Tasmania's Small Business Strategy 2036 and the How the Strategy has evolved document and share your feedback by completing the survey or making a written submission online, or via email or post. Your input will help ensure the final Strategy is practical, evidence‑based and grounded in the experiences of Tasmanian small businesses.

Stage two consultation closes at 2:00pm on Wednesday 30 September 2026.
