About the project

The Tasmanian Government is preparing the Bass Strait Islands Transport Strategy to help guide the future of passenger and freight transport for King Island, Flinders Island and truwana/Cape Barren Island.

For island communities, transport is fundamental to everyday life, connecting people to services, jobs, supplies, family and opportunities. The transport network is complex and local knowledge is critical to understanding what is working well, where challenges exist, and what should be prioritised for the future. The Strategy will draw on the experience and expertise of island communities to help inform future planning, advocacy and investment decisions.

About the project team

The project is being led by Tasmania-based consultancy Era Advisory, supported by Burbury Consulting, Tasmania's leading maritime engineering consultancy, AECOM's regional and remote aviation specialists, and freight logistics and forecasting experts Lime Intelligence. Together, the team brings a strong understanding of the Bass Strait Islands, with local knowledge and community experience central to the Strategy's development.

Have your say

We want to hear from island communities, businesses and local industry about what is working well, what could be improved, and what transport needs may be important over the next 20 years. The realities of island transport are complex, and the people who rely on passenger and freight services every day are best placed to understand the opportunities, challenges and priorities for the future.

We invite you to share your experiences and insights to help build a clear picture of what island communities need from the transport network, now and into the future.

You can get involved through our online survey, written submission portal, community drop-in sessions on each island, or dedicated workshops with local businesses, industry representatives and transport operators.
